That Terrific Staircase
I have done it
I have made it up that initial stairway
I have come to the light
Out of the darkness
But as I continue to ascend
Something hits me
It goes through me
Right through the heart
I trip
I fall
In pain I attempt to continue
I fail and tumble back
Back into the darkness
Back into the abyss
With only that terrific staircase
Continuing eternally
To guide me back to the light
